What Does an AI Visibility Audit Look Like?
Important context
This is a shortened, fictional example that demonstrates our audit structure. It is not a client case study, does not report real rankings or results, and does not imply that any AI platform will recommend a business.
1. What Is Recorded in the Baseline?
The report starts with the business facts and an approved, dated set of buyer questions. Each prompt is tested on the platforms included in the engagement. We record whether the business is mentioned, how accurately it is described, which sources are cited, and which competitors are named instead.
- Business name, primary category, services, locations, and website tested
- Platform, account or mode, date, prompt wording, and response captured
- Mention status, placement context, factual accuracy, citations, and competitors
- Repeat-test rules so later results can be compared with the same baseline
2. Which Buyer Questions Might Be Tested?
The exact prompts are customized. An illustrative GTA service-business set could include:
- Who provides this service near my neighbourhood?
- Which local provider is suitable for my specific problem?
- What does this service normally include and how should I compare providers?
- Which provider has verifiable experience, credentials, or customer evidence?
- What are the best options nearby, and what sources support the answer?
3. What Evidence Is Reviewed?
Access and technical signals
- Robots rules and HTTP response behaviour for search and AI crawlers
- Canonical URLs, indexability, internal links, XML sitemap, and page speed
- Organization, LocalBusiness, Service, Person, FAQ, and breadcrumb schema
Content and trust signals
- Clear service, location, pricing, process, and suitability information
- Consistent business facts across the site and third-party profiles
- Credentials, named expertise, reviews, case evidence, policies, and citations
4. How Are Findings Turned Into Actions?
| Example issue found | Example recommended state |
|---|---|
| Business identity is scattered across pages and profiles | One confirmed name, address, phone, service area, and entity record |
| Service pages make broad marketing claims | Each page directly answers scope, location, suitability, price, and trust questions |
| Location is mentioned without service-area evidence | Local pages, profiles, reviews, and schema agree on where the business works |
| AI visibility is assumed from Google rankings | A dated prompt set records mentions, accuracy, citations, and named competitors |
5. How Is the Roadmap Prioritized?
Findings are ordered by impact, effort, dependency, and confidence. Access and indexing problems come first; business-identity conflicts and missing core service facts follow; content expansion and authority work come after the foundation is reliable. Every recommendation identifies the affected URL or profile, the evidence behind the finding, the owner, and the condition that counts as complete.
6. What Is Not Included in This Public Sample?
A client report contains the actual prompt-response evidence, competitor observations, URL-level findings, screenshots where useful, and implementation priorities for that business. Those materials are private. Verified case studies and testimonials should only be published with client permission; this sample is intentionally not a substitute for them.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a real client report?
No. It is an illustrative, shortened example that shows the structure of an audit without exposing client information or presenting fictional outcomes as proof.
Does every audit use the same prompts?
No. Prompts are adapted to the business, services, locations, customer language, and platforms in scope. The same approved prompt set is then retained for repeat testing.
Does an audit guarantee an AI recommendation?
No. AI platforms control their answers. An audit documents current visibility, identifies obstacles within the business's control, and provides a prioritized plan that can be re-tested.
